Folksonomy & Tags

Folksonomy is a term much in use now. According to Wikipedia, it is the Practice and Method of collaboratively creating and managing tags. These tags categorize the content. The difference is that, instead of 'experts', the metadata is generated by the users.

Folksonomy is also known as collaborative tagging, social classification, social indexing and social tagging.

Web 2.0 is all about webpages that support tagging. Tag clouds are used to visualize the most used tags.

The tag cloud below is a creation of Tim O' Reilly, also credited with first using the term 'Web 2.0'

The Rajapalayam Hound

The Rajapalayam is an ancient sight hound on the verge of extinction. It is  large and heavy boned ( for a sight hound) and is usually white with a pink nose.Other solid colors such as black and brown may occur.

Other ancient Indian hounds include the Mudhol, Caravan and the Rampur. The Kombai and Chippiparai Nai's ( Nai is Tamil for dog) are similar breeds, though smaller.

Serious effort to save the breed is taking place in Australia and Canada. There are brave individual efforts by lovers of the Rajapalayam in India, but it requires a planned, concentrated effort to succeed. Hope something is done, because these hounds are a part of our glorious past.

  2. Check that you have received and understood what you wanted.
  3. See, to the extent possible, that your interests were served.

This book, written by Prasanna Kumar, is a must read for anyone who has worked in an IT firm. It is hilarious, insightful and small enough to read in an hour. The author has been able to transfer his thoughts to the reader in a straightforward way without hiding behing senseless marketing jargon. Anti-social.
